Antique linen, 54.821 HANDMADE jute knots, gilded side ribbons , completely gilded backside
2024

This monumental textile work embodies the artist's meditation on time, silence, and spiritual contemplation through the ritualistic act of creation. Measuring 300 x 170 cm, the piece consists of antique linen transformed through the painstaking placement of 54,821 handmade jute knots—each one a moment of prayer, a bead in an endless rosary of making.

The work's double-sided nature allows it to inhabit space as a breathing, living form when hung freely, with gilded side ribbons catching light and a completely gilded backside that transforms the piece into a luminous presence. The front presents the raw honesty of natural jute against aged linen—earth tones that speak to our connection with the ground beneath us—while the golden reverse suggests the celestial, the divine light that illuminates inner contemplation.

Created over the course of a full year, this work transcends traditional textile boundaries to become a temporal sculpture, a physical manifestation of slowness in our accelerated world. Each knot represents not just a technical gesture but a moment of reflection on humanity's eternal questions—our place in the universe, our relationship with the infinite, the constants that anchor us amid life's changes.

The piece invites viewers into a dialogue with time itself, asking them to consider what it means to dedicate months to the creation of something that speaks not through words but through the accumulation of countless small, deliberate acts of devotion. It stands as both artwork and artifact of spiritual practice, a testament to the transformative power of repetitive, meditative labor.
